What role do sodium silicate and sodium hexametaphosphate play in coal sample separation

Compared with the test results of sodium polymetaphosphate and sodium silicate as inhibitors, it can be seen from the test that the test results of sodium hexametaphosphate are better.

Because both sodium silicate and sodium hexametaphosphate can disperse and inhibit the separation process of coal samples, but it can be seen from the test results that the effect of sodium hexametaphosphate is better than sodium silicate when the ash content of clean coal is low.

According to the analysis of technicians, 90% of the samples used in the experiment are fine particles < 0.074mm. Because of the large surface tension of fine materials, they are easy to agglomerate and disperse, which brings difficulties to the preparation of ultra-clean coal. It is difficult to investigate the ash content of conventional coal separation to meet the test requirements, so adding inhibitors in order to increase the inhibition of clay, gangue, etc., and improve the selectivity of coal separation.


Sodium silicate has a certain foaming effect because of its viscosity and mixing with materials, which makes it more difficult to further reduce the ash content of fine coal. However, when the required ash content of clean coal is more than 1.3%, the effect of sodium silicate is better than that of sodium hexametaphosphate, and the yield is higher when the ash content is the same.


Technicians believe that this is mainly because sodium hexametaphosphate increases the electromotive potential in the pulp, thickens the diffusion layer, increases the repulsion force between particles, maintains a larger distance between particles, weakens and counteracts the van der Waals attraction, stabilizes the particle dispersion system, and finely argillaceous materials are not easy to cover the surface of coal particles.
