Flotation is a process of separating mineral particles by using the difference of physical and chemical properties of mineral surfaces. The ore mined from underground is called crude ore, which is generally composed of useful minerals and gangue. The grade of the crude ore is generally relatively low and cannot be directly smelted. Such as gold, silver, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, chalcocite, molybdenite, pentlandite and other " sulfide minerals", malachite, galena, smithsonite, heteropolar ore, hematite, cassiterite, wolframite, ilmenite, beryl, spodumene, rare earth metal minerals, uranium and other oxidized minerals. Separation of nonmetallic minerals such as graphite, diamond, Shi Ying, mica, feldspar and silicate minerals, nonmetallic salt minerals such as fluorite, apatite, barite and soluble salt minerals such as potassium salt and rock salt.
As sodium hexametaphosphate is a linear compound with a chain length of about 20 - 100 PO-3 units, when it is adsorbed on the mineral surface, it will intensify the steric effects between particles.
Sodium hexametaphosphate mainly acts as a dispersant. Prevent fine ore particles from aggregating to make them in a monomer dispersion state, with the opposite effect to flocculant. The electronegativity of the pulp surface is enhanced, so that the repulsive force between the pulp particles is obviously improved; the polymeric macromolecule is provided with a large water film, so that the hydration effect of the pulp particles is effectively enhanced; and sodium hexametaphosphate is complexed with calcium and magnesium ions in the pulp to generate a water-soluble complex.
